UBHO Action Fund Endorses Steve Eliason for House District 43

The UBHO Action Fund today announced its endorsement of Rep. Steve Eliason of Sandy for re-election to Utah House District 43 in the Nov. 3, 2026 general election. The endorsement is based on his support for behavioral health services in Utah.
Eliason has served in the Utah House since 2011. He is House Parliamentarian, chairs the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and sits on the House Health and Human Services Committee. A certified public accountant, he works as a financial manager for University of Utah Hospital and Clinics.
Over more than a decade, Eliason has sponsored much of the legislation behind Utah’s mental health crisis system. In 2017 he and Sen. Daniel Thatcher introduced a resolution urging Congress to create a national three-digit mental health crisis number, an early push for what became the 988 line, and in 2018 they sponsored legislation for a statewide mental health crisis line. He sponsored H.B. 32, Crisis Services Amendments, which funded 24-hour crisis receiving centers and expanded mobile crisis outreach teams, and his H.B. 35 funded about 30 additional beds at the Utah State Hospital. In 2023 he sponsored H.B. 78, Behavioral Health Treatment Access Amendments, which passed the House without opposition and became law.
Utah Association of Behavioral Health Organizations (UBHO) president, Jared Sanford praised Representative Eliason’s contributions to Utah. “Representative Steve Eliason has earned a reputation as one of Utah’s most effective legislators, consistently focusing on practical solutions. He has been a leading advocate for behavioral health and suicide prevention, sponsoring numerous initiatives that have expanded access to mental health services and improved outcomes for Utahns. Through his thoughtful leadership, commitment to public service, and ability to bring people together, Steve Eliason has made a lasting positive impact on communities across Utah.”
The UBHO Action Fund encourages voters in House District 43 to return their ballots by Election Day, Nov. 3.
